So it's been a week since I last posted, I'm pretty proud of myself for getting a new post in so soon!
Not much has been happening during the week. Just the typical solve world problems and debated over huge topics like welfare and sexism and taxes with my fellow prisoners...er I mean students. School really isn't that bad, I actually enjoy it. I met two other transfer students today and we have decided to start a super secret transfer student society.
Over the weekend Jake and I went to Minnesota to meet the Worleys for a Renaissance Festival. Jake wore a kilt...
For which he had to be bribed with copious amounts of alcohol...
Even before that we passed through Iowa. If you haven't been, don't. I swear it is the worst place to drive through. If you don't have to go to the bathroom and you pass a stop with a gas station you are screwed because they next one wont be for another 50 or so miles. The only think to look at in Iowa, besides the fields and fields of corn, are the fields and fields of windmills.
I now better understand Don Quijote. The things are slightly creepy rising out of corn fields like thin white giants. Not only that, they produce a low, steady, whir. Constantly.
After we got out of Iowa we both arrived in a state that we had never been. Minnesota. It looked like the rest of the Midwest. Bummer.
The Ren Fest was fun though! Mrs. Worley made Jake and Mr. Worley their costumes and her own. I used mine from previous years.
When we got there it was our most ardent desire to see the Mermaids. IT WAS AMAZING! My little girl inside me was squealing with delight as my adult on the outside could barely contain my excitement. I have always wanted to be a mermaid, and now I know I can. At least for a few months in the summer.
Isn't she gorgeous? I'm jealous of her job. There were three of them, and for some reason my phone has decided this was the only one I can load here. But they just played in the water and splashed each other and the other actors, which fittingly enough were pirates.
Just a little side not here, the temperature was 98 degrees with a heat index of somewhere around 105. If you have never worn medieval clothing it's HOT with many layers and usually not made of the most breathable material. I did not envy those pirates in their long coats and leather boots. I did however envy the mermaids in their pools of cold water.
Mrs. Worley and I got matching hena designs on our hands.
And the boys played king of the log.
Jake had quite the fandom with a group of middle aged Asian ladies shouting "Go Purple" as the two of them fought. Unfortunately that did nothing to help his balance. He lost all three times. You bet he will go for a rematch next year though.
Since the day was so hot Mrs. Worley and I decided that less clothing was a must and promptly headed to the gypsy clothing building and bough nice, light, flowy, and silk outfits. We both dropped about 20 degrees once in them. It was a good investment.
Alas, the day was too hot and we were all exhausted and dirty. After a quick shower and rest we, well Mrs. Worley and I, wanted to check out the Mall of America. The boys, not content to stay in the hotel room, mumbled their protests and came along any way.
The MoM was pretty cool, large, but not super exciting. I was expecting new shops I have never heard of with TONS of diversity and things I couldn't buy anywhere else. I was wrong. Many of the big hitting stores, like Victoria Secret, had two locations within the mall.
The coolest thing was the amusement park in the middle of the mall. That was pretty neat. It had full on roller coasters.
My phone died at this point so that's all I have of the MoM.
Mr. Worley was on call the next morning in South Dakota so they drove home once we got back from the MoM. Mrs. Worley text me when they got home at 6am. He didn't get called in so they both got to sleep the day away.
Jake and I however came home straight to the bowling league. I bowled a 94,93, 107. Which is pretty good for me.
Today was back to the grind. It's Moni's birthday, she partied all weekend while we were gone and we are going out to dinner this weekend to celebrate.
Well that's it for now!
Oh wait, I finally got a picture of the statue I love on campus so much.
The lighting washes her out, she looks best at dusk. Maybe I'll try taking a picture then on Thursday.
